Adega Velha

Adega Velha is named after the very first cellar built at Quinta da Aveleda. Literally, it means “Old Cellar” because it is the place where this brandy ages for over a decade. The shade and the magic ambience of this beautiful place is characterized by the harmony and tranquility where old French oak casks from the Limousin region (France) store the distilled Vinho Verde, giving the great properties recognized to belong to Adega Velha. You can have a look at it by clicking on “Visit Quinta da Aveleda”.

Producing such a spirit requires more than time. In fact, much more is needed in order to obtain perfection. From the beginning, the grapes must be carefully selected from our vineyards, from which we elaborate a low alcohol and high acidity wine. After tasting and analyzing it, the best wine is chosen to pass to the second step: the first distillation in a Charentais alambic. This can last for over a week. After extracting the superior alcohols of it, the remains are distilled a second time, remaining only the most exquisite parts of the wine. The following step consists in filling the barrels gently, where the aguardente will obtain its amber color and will rest peacefully in the Adega Velha. The team responsible for this process is composed by the highly specialized team of winemakers that have worked at Aveleda for many years and know the secrets of this method like the palm of their own hands. Mother Nature takes care of the rest, allowing tiny spiders create their nets on the roofs, so that no insect gets the chance to taste this unique brandy.

The result of this decade-long process is a fine and rich old brandy, with a delicate acidity and a generous aroma. Adega Velha is the perfect match to serve as a digestive or to celebrate great occasions taking your time to enjoy it.
